What to Expect

Once you have contacted us we will reserve the dates of your booking and be in touch to discuss the location of the sauna hire.  We need to ensure that there is sufficient space for us to bring and manoeuvre the sauna which is towed behind a vehicle. The site needs to be relatively flat and firm.

After establishing that the hire location is suitable, payment of the full amount is due, this will secure your booking in our schedule. We will send you an invoice via Quickbooks, and payment can be made via BACS or credit/debit card (card payments will incur a small additional fee).  Once the booking is paid for in full, we will send you a booking confirmation and make arrangements regarding the drop off and collection times with you.

On the day of the hire beginning, we will arrive at the pre-agreed time, park the sauna in the agreed location, and fully set up the trailer so that it is secure and stable. This process can take up to 1 hour depending on the circumstances. At the same time, a full handover will be given to you, including how to operate the sauna stove. A user guide is left inside the sauna as well should you have any further questions.

Below is a brief overview of the full Stravaig Sauna experience:

  • Light the stove 1 hour before you need to use it to allow the sauna to get to temperature (approx 80 degrees celcius)- always keep the door to the hot room closed during this period. The fire will need stoked once or twice during this period, so be sure to check regularly that it is burning well.

  • Use the vestibule to get changed and/or store your belongings.

  • Always use a towel for sitting or lying in the sauna.

  • Pour water on the sauna stones to create the famous Löyly (steam)

  • Enjoy!

  • There is an outdoor shower, which can be connected to a garden hose should one be available at the hire location. We have a 50m hose reel which we provide with the sauna and will be connected at the drop off.  If not you can use a local burn or river or just a bucket of water to cool you down!

  • Keep the fire going as required and once you're finished in the sauna, leave the fire to burn itself out, and open the door to the vestibule.

  • Always lock the external sauna door when not in use.

We will collect the sauna at the pre-arranged time. A full inspection will be carried out and any damage will be identified. You are liable for the cost of repairing any damage caused during the hire period, as per our terms and conditions of hire.
